Born from a labor of love...literally.
Until I delivered my first baby in 2012, I was always told that "breast is best" and I knew that I wanted to breastfeed my babies for at least one year. Then, my daughter was born. I was holding her in my arms, my husband by my side, my milk production low after a long and strenuous labor and c-section, and I was ready to throw in the towel. Luckily for me, I had my mom. She had successfully breastfed both my brother and I, and reminded me daily "it will get better, just give it one more day."
At that point, I had no clue that this was a very common story for many families in the United States and around the world. I distinctly remember sitting in my hospital bed thinking "there has to be a better way." The nurses, who were wonderful, but ill-prepared and poorly trained (if at all) in breastfeeding, did all that they could to help me breastfeed once they realized I was not quitting (despite the thought crossing my mind every second).
This is where my business was born. The aim of Pike Nutrition and Lactation is to bring quality breastfeeding and nutrition support to Pike, Wayne, Monroe and surrounding counties. I want to be that voice, when you aren't sure, to say "it will get better, just give it one more day."
At the end of the day, I want families to feel empowered and strengthened by their ability to do what suits their needs.
You most definitely got this.
